Vinnie has done hundreds of guitar clinics all over the world including such places as, Japan, Scandanavia, Italy, Poland, Mexico, Canada, New Zealand, England, Germany and Australia. This led to Vinnie’s first professional work in the music business which was writing and playing the music for a national Pepsi TV commercial. It was evident that he had found his calling this was the start of his journey as a songwriter.Īfter many hours of creating tunes with his 4 track, Vinnie sent a demo to Guitar Player magazine, and came to national attention via its "Spotlight" column, written by Shrapnel Records exec Mike Varney. He quit the band, got a 4-track tape recorder, and began experimenting by recording his ideas and building them into songs. After a few years of playing with different bands, Vinnie decided it was time to make the jump from covering songs to creating his own music. Vinnie took lessons with a private instructor and at 14, he joined his first band, jamming on cover tunes with drums, bass, 2 guitars and vocals. The album included a solo by Moore on the song “Invader”, which followed the style of Van Halen’s “Eruption”.Once Vinnie Moore picked up his first guitar (a Kay) at the age of 12, he became, as he describes it, a “guitar freak.” His earliest influences included - among others - Jeff Beck, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Queen. Vinnie Moore played lead guitar with the heavy metal band Vicious Rumors on their debut album, “Soldiers of the night”. The album received several awards from guitar magazines and sold around 100,000 copies. After this appearance, Mooore recorded his first solo album, Mind’s Eye, on Shrapnel Records with Tony MacAlpine on keyboards. His meeting with Varney gave him the opportunity to appear in a Pepsi commercial in 1985 (actually only Vinnie’s hands appear in the ad while you can hear him playing). Moore began his professional career at the early age of 12 playing in clubs and bars until Shrapnel Records executive Mike Varney discovered him through a magazine article.
Along with Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony MacAlpine and others, Moore is known as one of the guitarists most influential in the emergence of the shred technique in the mid-1980s.
